Frases

Hay frases de libros que se me quedan grabadas, y en ocasiones me dan vueltas por la cabeza durante días.

De mi libro favorito, Shards of honor  (bueno, no sólo este libro sino toda la saga Vorkosigan), ahí van dos. Como no están traducidos al español, la traducción es mala, porque es mía, pero que se le va a hacer:

- This struggle, God knows, has no honor in it. But exile, for no other motive than ease - that would be to give up all hope of honor. The last defeat, with no seed of future victory in it. (más o menos sería: Dios sabe que en esta lucha, no hay honor posible. Pero optar por el exilio, sin otra razón más que la comodidad, sería renunciar a toda esperanza de honor. La derrota definitiva, sin una posibilidad de victoria futura)

- I've always thought - tests are a gift. And great tests are a great gift. To fail the test is a misfortune. But to refuse the test is to refuse the gift, and somethig worse, more irrevocable than misfortune. (...) If you think it's really wrong, that's one thing. Maybe that's the test. But if it's only fear of failure, you have not the right to refuse the gift for that. (Siempre he pensado que las pruebas son un regalo. Y las grandes pruebas son un gran regalo. Fracasar en la prueba es una desgracia. Pero rechazar la prueba es rechazar el regalo, y es algo peor, más irrevocable que la desgracia. Si crees realmente que está mal, eso es otra cosa. Quizá esa sea la prueba. Pero si es únicamente miedo al fracaso, no tienes derecho a rechazar el regalo por ello)
